After alarming news of yesterday I was somehow worried to look at the current situation, particularly that of Feja. The news were “killing”… Her last point was south of Peloponnese off the coast of Greece, her first point of this morning was … in Libya! That means without any doubt that she has been flying all night long, covering some 450 km over the Mediterranean and after having done that she made another 300 km across Sahara in direction towards Nile today. Precise distance (and more important – elevation and time schedule of her flight) we will get only when her full data will become available at the first download but this is close to daily record flight of Black Stork and possibly the first evidence of a night flight. I do ask for comments / corrections from other stork researchers if I’m wrong!
In this way Feja has “cut” some 500 km of extra flight around Mediterranean compared to the distance covered by Zuze. Zuze entered Africa yesterday as expected and is heading toward Nile, only a little ahead of Feja. Upene is still exploring fishponds in Israel, Sarma – some (salt?) lakes in Turkey. Kate is “off-line”, also as expected.
